What is Fashion Positive?
Fashion Positive is an initiative of the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, a nonprofit organization that administers the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard. Fashion Positive identifies, certifies and provides the fashion industry access to material inputs for the Circular Economy.
Founded in 2014 by the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute, the DOEN Foundation, and The Schmidt Family Foundation, Fashion Positive aims to give designers, fashion brands, and suppliers a platform to transcend industry challenges such as sourcing materials, modernizing manufacturing equipment, ensuring safe and healthy working conditions, and leveraging collaboration to create highly desirable apparel that is beautiful inside and out.
Where is Fashion Positive located?
Fashion Positive is headquartered in Oakland , California, with a satellite office in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
Why was Fashion Positive formed?
Inspired by the Cradle to Cradle design approach developed by William McDonough and Michael Braungart, Fashion Positive was formed to empower supply-chain manufacturers and brands to shift to an updated fashion model that considers toxicity in materials, ending-waste, use of renewable energy, water conservation and quality, and social fairness.
What are the goals of Fashion Positive?
Fashion Positive seeks to provide a platform to accelerate innovation and optimization of high-impact fashion materials which can be inputs for the circular economy.
Fashion Positive is growing a resource library that will index inventive fabrics, dyes, trims, and thread, as well as other materials and products that meet the Cradle to Cradle Certified™ Product Standard, making it easier for fashion brands and designers to source certified materials.
How can the Fashion Positive program help me?
Fashion Positive aims to define and demystify the future of fashion by offering public access to our collection of Cradle to Cradle Certified™ materials, guiding brands toward best practices that can culminate in certification, as well as provide community connections to likeminded brands, suppliers, designers, innovators, and institutions.
How is Fashion Positive funded?
Fashion Positive is supported by the DOEN Foundation and the The Schmidt Family Foundation, as well as private donations from organizations and individuals who share the same core values as the Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute.
